Fantastic Cinema Announces Complete Lineup for 2015

Fantastic Cinema Announces Complete Lineup for 2015

The Film Society of Little Rock’s first principal festival, Fantastic Cinema, has announced their complete lineup of 12 Feature Films and 19 Short Films.  All 30 Films will have an Arkansas Premiere, with 1 World Premiere, 5 North American Premieres, and 10 Regional Premieres.

Tony Taylor, executive director of the recently formed FSLR and the Fantastic Cinema Feature Film Programmer says the term “fantastic” in a film festival refers specifically to a select group of genres that includes fantasy, science fiction, action, horror, and crime/suspense.

The inaugural festival received more than 115 entries from more than 24 countries.  From those selections, Taylor and Short Film Programmer Josh Harrison have curated the festival’s official selections. “Josh Harrison has programmed one of the strongest lineups of shorts I have seen at any film festival,” said Taylor. “These are films you don’t want to miss!”

“The primary goal of FSLR and the Fantastic Cinema Film Festival is to bring a diverse selection of high quality films to Little Rock that would not otherwise screen here,” Taylor explained. “There is a vast world of truly fantastic cinema being produced globally that currently cannot be seen in Little Rock. There is no venue screening foreign genre films.  We want to change that.”

Many of the films are in English, though all were produced outside the United States.  Festival director Michael Armstrong said, “All of the entries have done a great job really embracing their respective genres.  While they may contain dramatic, comedic, or romantic elements, there’s no mistaking the genre influence.  That leaves us with a selection of some of the most imaginative, well produced, and fun independent films that you have never seen.  We find that very exciting.”

Also during the festival, FSLR is taking the opportunity to introduce the upcoming monthly movie series, ASIAN MOVIE MADNESS! with a screening of the feature film BROTHERHOOD OF BLADES presented by Fantastic Cinema and Well Go USA Entertainment. More details about ASIAN MOVIE MADNESS! will be released in the coming week.

Armstrong said it was important to FSLR to make the festival affordable and accessible to Arkansas film lovers. Tickets are $7 at the door for individual screenings, and $15 for a day pass, though the best buy comes from the $40 full festival passes available at http://fantasticcinema2015.bpt.me/ which include two discounted drinks at the Lobby Bar each of the four nights of the festival.  Festival Passes are only $35 for students.

Fantastic Cinema takes place March 11-14, 2015 at The Studio Theatre in Little Rock, AR (USA).  The festival, presented by the Film Society of Little Rock, features some of the best Independent genre films from around the world.
