The Film Society of Little Rock is thrilled to announce The Alchemist Cookbook, with Director Joel Potrykus in attendance, will open Fantastic Cinema & Craft Beer Festival on Thursday, April 7 at 7 pm at Riverdale 10 VIP Cinema.

Young outcast Sean has isolated himself in a trailer in the woods, setting out on alchemic pursuits, with his cat Kaspar as his sole companion. Filled with disdain for authority, he’s fled the daily grind and holed up in the wilderness, escaping a society that has no place for him. But when he turns from chemistry to black magic to crack nature’s secret, things go awry and he awakens something far more sinister and dangerous.

The genre-defying feature (Drama? Comedy? Horror? All the above?) is coming off a buzzworthy World Premiere at SXSW where Paste named it one of the “Best of the Fest”. Variety said “If you only see two American indie features co-starring Satan this year, one should obviously be “The Witch.” The other almost certainly will turn out to be 'The Alchemist Cookbook'”.

Smells Like Screen Spirit raved about Potrykus, “This is a unique vision of one of the most intriguing young auteurs in American independent cinema. With this film, Potrykus has grown leaps & bounds as a director.

Writer/Director Joel Potrykus resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The Alchemist Cookbook (2016) follows the release of his Animal Trilogy - Buzzard (SXSW, 2014, Little Rock Film Festival), Ape (winner of Best Emerging Director - Locarno Film Festival, 2012), and Coyote (2010). ~ SXSW
